As spring is upon us, the spirit of Burning Man is flourishing in our community. Recompression 03 is coming together nicely as people step up to share their gifts, their special talents, with their friends. This year, we have shifted from our traditional indoor urban venues to a coastal rain forest setting, only a short ferry ride from Vancouver, on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. And we've got a full slate of interactive Burning activities for you to participate in!

1. FIRE CEREMONY & DANCE    (see background image of this page for location)

What is a Burner gathering without fire?

Early on Saturday, the Burn Coordinators will begin constructing a large-scale temporary art project, our own version of The Man, that will be the burning centerpiece of a grand Fire Ceremony. As the sun goes down people will gather around for the commencement of the festivities. The Man will be raised. At 9:30pm, we will gather again, as fire dancers and performers bring forth the flame. The beat of drums and swirling orange spirals around the roaring bonfire will initiate participants into a night of celebration.

The fire will continue through the night as participants move in to the Moose Lodge to dance 'til the sun rises once more. All of our favorite DJs from recent Vancouver BM events will be your groove doctors, inspiring you to move 'n shake your entire bodies. Various chill spaces will be available for your relaxation.
2. ACTIVITIES, WORKSHOPS & THEME AREAS

Many talented folks in our community are stepping up and out to bring you a variety of interactive activities, both exciting and relaxing, in which to participate.

As a precursor to Saturday night's Burn, there will be a *Fire Spinning & Safety* workshop. This will be followed by a rehearsal for all spinners who want to create a collective performance for the Fire Ceremony. Contact Natalie <edible@pobox.com> to find out more about this.

The *Burning Man Film Festival* will be shown ongoing all weekend, with brand new feature BM documentaries making their local debuts. A *Community Forum* will encourage you to bring forward your ideas on shaping our community's future. The *Burning Virgins* workshop aims to assist newbies in preparing for their first BM experience. The *Beyond Belief* guided discussion will explore philosophies and ideas around this year's BM theme.

Interested in alternative ways of living and using energy? You'll want to attend the *Yurt-Making & Solar Oven Building* information workshop. The fine art of *Rock-Balancing* will be taught by a skilled practitioner down along the seaside. Learn how to work with beads in the *Beading Jewelry* workshop. A *Deep Method Improv Acting* workshop will challenge serious actors and curious metaprogrammers to explore character and emotion. The *Journal-Writing* workshop will help you tap into your writer inside. A directed *Meditation For Peace* will focus energy on ending war. Learn a process of self awareness and grounding in the *Focusing Workshop*. An intuitive employing tools of psychic/collective conscious lore will be on hand to do *Psychic Readings.*

A Recompression gathering just wouldn't be the same without *Xara.* Fortunately, you will all have the chance to chill under the vines of this soothing blacklight jungle, warmed by the glow of a fireplace. What could be more perfect? *The Healing Centre* will offer nice respite for those who need a quiet space. Bring a friend along for a massage!

More activities, with full details and times, will be announced in the coming week!
3. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

Bring along your musical instruments for Friday night's acoustic jam! Guitars, drums, didjs, shakers, kazoos, your vocal chords... get into the groove, baby.

There is still lots of space available for theme areas and chill spaces. The Moose Lodge will basically be a free for all decoration blitz. Bring a tent to add to TentVille, and create mini-theme camps inside. Blow off the playa dust, take out last year's decorations and claim a space to decorate! Or design the lighting for one of our many collective areas.

Look around your home (or your BM supply locker). Is there something you can bring to share with everyone? We need tiki torches, black lights (and various other fun), home stereo systems (or ghetto blasters) and CDs to provide music for the cabins, heavy extension cords and power bars, party-enhancing decorations and props, cushions, inflatable mattresses, blankets, more cushions, mementos and incense to burn, and whatever other Burner touches you wish to provide. You know... the usual.

Are you an experienced yogi? We need someone to lead group yoga sessions. Are you a certified first aid attendant? Offer your services to our growing team.

Step up, step up, we're only two weeks away!
Please note that to encourage participation, a small budget exists to assist participants in costs incurred for workshops or theme camps. Please outline your ideas and budget requirements and send a request for funds to Delyse delyse @ telus dot net. All requests will be assessed by the Recompression committee, and we'll advise you shortly after the registration deadline.
4. BASIC INFO ON RECOMPRESSION AND ELPHINSTONE

Recompression 03 is the third annual Recompression event hosted by the Vancouver Burning Man community. It is a participants-only Temporary Autonomous Zone. We are inspired by, and share values with, Burning Man.

It is a not-for-profit event, subsidized by the BM Vancouver community fund, using money from our most recent events at the Waldorf. The modest accommodation fees you are paying go directly to Camp Elphinstone, a charitable nonprofit children's camp run by the YMCA. More than just the delicious catered food & lodging (funky cabins) are covered by the fees. (6 awesome meals for weekenders, Saturday dinner for 1 day package + beverages 24/7)
Elphinstone is like a four-star resort for Burners! What you are getting is a weekend away, in a beautiful & magical coastal rain forest setting, with great facilities, fireplaces with already cut wood, electricity, running water, an awesome fire pit, and many more surprises! Your personal well-being is assured by the presence of a first aid station manned by certified staff and volunteers, as well as fire safety tools.
Your survival basics are taken care of so you may participate to your fullest! BE A KID AGAIN AT CAMP ELPHINSTONE!
