RECOMPRESSION III
is a Burning Man-inspired Temporary Autonomous Zone,
and all who attend are Participants.

BEYOND BELIEF
Beyond belief, beyond the dogmas, creeds, and metaphysical ideas of religion, there exists immediate experience. It is from this primal world that living faith arises. The intention of Beyond Belief is to explore this mystery. In 2003 we will invite participants to create interactive rites, ritual processions, elaborate images, shrines, icons, and temples: visions of realities profoundly other and far greater than our conscious selves. Our theme will occupy that ambiguous territory that lies between reverence and ridicule, faith and belief, the absurd and the dazzlingly sublime. The human urge to make events, objects, actions and personalities sacred is protean. It can fix on and inhabit anyone or anything. This year our art theme will release this spirit in the Black Rock Desert.

Blessings

Thank you all. There could be no Recompression without each and every one of you, an integral part in the creation of the magic, whether present or not in that time and space. Sharing your energy, your love, and your lessons. On and off the Playa. All year round. Thank you, Universe.
With full and open heart,
squishelle

The environment that a event is held in always affects the event and makes it different. In this case we should really call it Wet Rock City, as we received well over 30mm of rain over the entire weekend. The liquid sunshine pouring down did not deter the burningman spirit as suggested by 15-20 people who carried the 6m (20ft) over 0.5km from the sheltered building area to the burn area on the beachfront. Quite frankly I'm amazed that we had that many people come outside to watch the man burn. He was clothed in drop-sheet plastic to keep his pyrotechnics from getting wet, and he blazed despite the rain coming down.

A spectacular display of fire was provided by a cavalcade of fire spinners, who led the precession of people from the dry sheltered long-house to the burn amphitheater. The man was lit in two stages. First, his hands were lit by a fire-breather who ignited the left hand before it was raised into position, however the second hand was raised to it's full height of 6m (20ft) before it could be ignited. In an determined and impressive display the fire-breather was able to ignite the right hand after 4 or 5 attempts. The main portion of the fire (at the man's feet) was ignited, and there was no turning back. The entire burn was very quick (1.5hours), and most people filtered back to the shelter of the long-house and the Moose lodge where the music space was setup and thumping. Details of the DJ's and the music can be found at the recompression website, and I'm quite sure there will be photo's available soon.

Only minor injuries where encountered with a few falls on slippery logs and muddy trails.

Hi there, This is Graham, your cook from the event.

just wanted to say thanx, you guys touched my soul in a way and was very happy to feed and meet some of you,
i've learned more about BM since your event, I snuck off with some literature from the table,  anyway, I was very happy to be a part of what happened at the camp on the weekend, I  realize now that BM is not just a week long party, it is a growing community who just so happen to meet once a year at BRC, since your event I have begun to prepare myself for BM, maybe not this year, but I will make it, I already feel like I am apart of the BM community, I hope you made it to see big tree, that's the REAL reason you ended up there, that tree is the boss of that camp, I will tell you my big tree story some day, but for now, lets just say that big tree hired me to work at the camp, no matter what any "real world" brain has to say, that tree is the reason for many o souls meeting in this world. I hope you all had as much fun as I did, and I was "at work" thank you for bringing your event to Elphinstone, and I will see you in BRC, O, and somebody PLEASE bring some info and literature to my skateshop in GIBSONS for me to display, GRAVEYARD SKATESHOP in MOLLY'S LANE, would love to be an outlet on the sunshine coast for BM information.    see you on the Playa!
